Court’s stay on the melting of Shri Tulja Bhavani Devi’s ornaments is a slap to the people carrying out corrupt practices in Devi’s Court : Ms Priyanka Lone, HJS

Shri Tulja Bhavani Devi

Tuljapur (Maharashtra) – The Aurangabad Bench of Mumbai High Court passed a stay order to keep on hold the process of melting gold-silver ornaments of Shri Tulja Bhavani Devi, The ‘Kulaswamini’ of Maharashtra. It is a hard slap to the people who have no inhibitions in carrying out corrupt practices even while managing Devi’s temple, stated Ms Priyanka Lone, the petitioner in this case and Coordinator of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS), through a press release. Sanjiv Deshpande, a senior advocate, H.H. Suresh Kulkarni of Hindu Vidhidnya Parishad (HVP), and advocate Umesh Bhadakaokar also expressed their views on the matter.

It has been further stated in the Press Release –

1.There has been misappropriation in the auction of gold-silver ornaments, precious diamonds donated by devotees, and cash of more than Rs 8.50 crore offered by devotees in the temple. This amount could be the tip of the iceberg.

2.It is worth mentioning that no action has been taken against any of the guilty in this case. There was a likelihood of covering up the misappropriation by melting gold-silver ornaments to show less weight. Recently, it was found that Devi’s gold crown weighing more than 0.75 kg, and ‘Mangalsutra’ were missing. The present verdict of the Court is significant as it will curb future corrupt practices and help maintain transparency in all transactions.

3.HJS has been fighting against corruption in the management of temples by filing PIL through the medium of HVP since 2015. The first inquiry committee set up in the matter had found 15 individuals guilty and advised filing criminal cases against them. A second inquiry committee was then set up, which changed the report of the first inquiry committee, giving clean chit to all the people found guilty by the first committee. Unfortunately, the Governments formed by all the parties are interested in taking action against the guilty in this case; in fact, they are trying to support the corrupt people, thus disregarding devotees’ sentiments.

4.The case of misappropriation in the treasure chest of Shri Tulja Bhavani Devi, the ancient, historical gold-silver and other valuable ornaments, besides old coins, is sub judice. The matter involves misplaced 71 historical ancient coins donated by the earlier Kings, two pairs of silver ‘Khadava’ of Devi and ruby. No action has been taken against the people found guilty.
