India’s second indigenous aircraft carrier plan is aimed at China : Global Times

  • Chinese Government annoyed by India’s third aircraft carrier !
  • The Global Times also attempted to undermine India’s aircraft carriers by stating that they are far behind as compared to China’s carriers

Beijing (China) – India is planning to build a second aircraft carrier to boost its naval power. This development has annoyed China and led Global Times, the mouthpiece of the Chinese Government, to spew venom against India. Global Times, the so-called dragon, said India is reportedly preparing to build its second indigenous aircraft carrier to compete with China. It quoted various Chinese military analysts as saying that being able to build its own aircraft carrier is a great accomplishment. However, if India’s strategy is aimed at China, then it has tunnel vision. India’s Defence Acquisition Council is likely to approve the acquisition of indigenous aircraft carrier worth around $4.8 billion (₹40,000 crore).

China is not India’s enemy as long as the latter does not provoke China : China

1. The Global Times added that India can rightfully develop its navy, but if its strategy is aimed at China, then it has tunnel vision. China pursues a national defense policy that is defensive in nature, and so as long as India does not provoke China, China is no enemy to India.

2. China said that its presence in the Indian Ocean is not targeted at India, but for peaceful purposes and providing international public security goods including escort duties, safeguarding commercial sea lanes and delivering humanitarian aid, from which India also benefits.

3. China compared India’s proposed aircraft carrier with its new aircraft carrier Fujian and said that Fujian is the second indigenous aircraft carrier which was deployed in June 2022. It displaces over 80,000 tonnes water and is equipped with electromagnetic catapults that can launch heavier warplanes faster than ski-jump ramps, making it a much superior carrier than the one India is planning.

4. Global Times boasted that India’s first aircraft carrier INS Vikrant could not match the operational capacity of China’s first indigenous aircraft carrier Shandong although its construction started far earlier than the Shandong. Shandong has demonstrated its combat capabilities in several far sea exercises in the West Pacific this year. However, the Global Times cynically forgets that China built its first aircraft carrier out of the scrap bought from Ukraine and stolen Russian technology.

Capacity of India’s proposed aircraft carrier

India’s new carrier is expected to hold at least 28 fighter jets and helicopters, including French Rafale fighter jets, and displaces 45,000 tonnes of water.

Editorial Perspective

Psychology says that a country tries to belittle another country by comparing with it due to the fear that the latter’s rise may cause it trouble. This pathetic attempt by China shows its growing insecurity due to India.
