Teacher stops students from chanting ‘Jai Shriram’ at an engineering college in Ghaziabad, UP

Ghaziabad (UP) – A student chanted ‘Jai Shriram’ before the performance of a song at the cultural programme at ABSE Engineering College in Ghaziabad. The other students on the platform responded by saying ‘Jai Shriram’. A teacher however strongly objected to this. After a video of this incident started circulating on social media, a heavy Police presence has been kept outside the college. Calls for the dismissal of the concerned teacher are also being raised.

After the students chanted ‘Jai Shriram’, the teacher rebuked them by saying, “You have not come here to raise slogans. This is a cultural programme of a college and now you cannot sing here.”

Another video of the same programme is being circulated, where the teacher can be heard saying “We have all come here for a cultural event. Then why are the slogans of ‘Jai Shriram’ being given here ? This makes no sense, you will have to follow the discipline of the college. This programme will continue only after we see some discipline. Otherwise, we will not conduct any such events in future. You are studying in a good college; hence your behaviour should also be good.”

Editorial perspective

What is the harm in chanting ‘Jai Shriram’? This is extremely shameful ! That too at a time when everyone should be following the ideals set by Prabhu Shriram.
