New York (USA) – ‘The decision to inform the Canadian Parliament about the allegations made against India in the Nijjar murder case was not taken easily. Allegations in the murder case are credible and should be taken very seriously. India should work with Canada to allow justice to follow its course’, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in an appeal to India. ‘We call upon the Government of India to take this matter seriously. India should work with us to shed full transparency and ensure accountability and justice in this matter’, he added.

When asked if the Government of Canada is going to take any measures as a response to the temporary suspension of visa services for Canadian citizens by India, Trudeau said, ‘We are a country of rule of law. We are going to continue to do the work necessary to keep Canadians safe and to uphold our values and international rules-based order. That’s our focus right now’.
We also want to continue to work with India !
Softening his earlier stance, Trudeau further said that there is no doubt that India is growing in importance. There is no doubt that we too want to work with India further, but we are not trying to provoke India or create problems in any way. The importance of the law and the safety of Canadian citizens are our top priorities. Thus, we have requested the Government of India to work with us to get to the truth in this matter. We are a country of the rule of law. We will continue to do what we can to keep Canadians safe.

The murder took place in Canada. Even after 3 months have passed, no action has been taken against anyone yet. This shows that either Canada is not serious about it or its Police are not competent enough ! At such a time it is ridiculous for Canada to appeal to India instead of introspecting ! |
