(An Imam is the leader of the prayers in the Mosque)
London (UK) – Sheikh Jakaullah Salim, the Imam of a mosque in Birmingham, has stirred controversy with his recent remarks. He suggested that women who commit adultery should be buried up to their waist and subsequently stoned to death. A video capturing his address to a group of people, where he references Sharia law and these severe punishments, has surfaced on social media. Additionally, he mentioned that unmarried women engaged in illicit relationships should receive 100 lashes, as prescribed by Sharia law.
In the video, the Imam emphasised unwavering adherence to Allah’s directives, advocating for strict implementation without leniency. Notably, the mosque received a substantial grant of Rs 23.25 crore from the British government in July 23. The intention behind this funding was to support the mosque’s efforts in countering religious violence and acts of terrorism. However, the video portrays Sheikh Salim apparently using these funds to incite the crowd toward the mentioned punitive actions.
