If the demographic profile is altered, the Constitution ceases to exist : Madras High Court judge GR Swaminathan

Madras High Court judge GR Swaminathan

Chennai – Madras High Court judge GR Swaminathan, while speaking at a book launch event in Chennai stated, “Constitution is the ultimate for everyone. If the Constitution must remain the same, the demographic profile which existed at the time of the formation of the Constitution has to be maintained. Only when the demographic profile remains the same, the Constitution will remain the same. If the demographic profile changes, the Constitution will perish.” Justice Swaminathan also said that to maintain the “demographic profile”, one had to follow the “Bharatiya traditions” and “dharma” that have existed. “When Andal sang in her hymns asking people to wake up from their sleep, I believed she was calling the Indian society to wake up which was sleeping peacefully without knowing that it was under a lot of danger,” he added.

Editorial Viewpoints

  • This statement by the judge will poke into the eyes of seculars and liberals who are busy trying to flatter a particular community. This is a very important statement, made by someone who follows the Constitution. So, society must think about it.
  • To save the Constitution, the demographics framework during the partition period should be maintained.  For that, Hindu Rashtra is inevitable.
