Indore (Madhya Pradesh) – Sindhi community had kept the holy books of ‘Shri Guru Granth Sahib’ in their temples for many decades. More than 80 such copies of the holy book were returned to Imli Sahib Gurudwara. After the altercation between Nihang Sikhs and Sindhi community, it was decided by the Sindhi community to submit copies of the holy book at Guurdwara.

One faction of Nihang Sikhs had demanded the removal of all Idols from Sindhi temples where copies of ‘Shri Guru Granth Sahib’ were kept. Sindhi community didn’t agree to this demand and decided to collect copies of ‘Shri Guru Granth Sahib’ from all temples and send them to Gurudwara and accordingly took action.

A faction of Nihang Sikhs from Amritsar visited a Sindhi temple located on Annapurna Marg in Indore. A copy of ‘Shri Guru Granth Sahib’ was kept in that temple, and it was being worshipped along with the Idols. This faction, however, raised an objection to keeping copies of the holy book where Deities were worshipped, claiming that it was like showing disrespect to the holy book. The faction claimed that wherever ‘Shri Guru Granth Sahib’ was worshipped, the place becomes a gurudwara, and it becomes necessary to follow the rules applicable to gurudwaras; therefore, the Sindhi temples wherever the holy book was kept, should be declared as gurudwara and Deities’ Idols should be removed and if the temples didn’t agree with it, they should not keep copies of Shri Guru Granth Sahib. The faction also advised sending copies of the holy book to a gurdwara by the 12th of January 2023. They also had arguments with members of ‘Hindu Jagaran Manch’ on this issue.

A meeting was held by Sindhi community with Saints wherein a 5 member committee was set up. The committee discussed the matter and decided to submit all copies of ‘Shri Guru Granth Sahib’ to gurudwara. Accordingly, they sent copies of the holy book to gurudwara on the 11th of January 2023.

Editorial viewpoint

Didn’t Nihang Sikhs know about this ‘Granth’ kept along with the Idols in temples for so many years ? It is necessary to investigate whether they are showing their ‘Khalistani’ mentality to create hatred between Sikhs and Hindus !
