Dharmapuri (TN) – A video has surfaced of Tamilselvi, the headmistress of a Government school in Dharmapuri District of Tamil Nadu, refusing to hoist the tricolour in the school on Independence Day citing religious traditions. A complaint has been lodged with the Chief Education Officer of Dharmapuri following this incident. It is also mentioned in the complaint that the teacher took leave during the Independence Day celebrations. Not only this but it has also been mentioned that this kind of incident has been going on for the past several years. Tamilselvi is going to retire this year.

In this video, she is heard saying, ‘I am a Jacobite Christian. According to the tradition of this community, we are not allowed to worship anyone except God. My intention was not to disrespect the national flag. I respect the Tricolour, but only God is worshipped in my religion’.
