External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar with Sri Lanka’s President Gotabaya Rajapaksa

Colombo (Sri Lanka) – India’s continued support was assured by its External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to Sri Lanka, which is currently fighting a unique economic crisis, during his meeting with Sri Lanka’s President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. Jaishankar is on a tour of Sri Lanka to hold bilateral talks with Sri Lanka and attend the seven-nation BIMSTEC summit. Gotabaya has thanked the Indian Government for such assurance.

Sri Lanka has been facing a financial and energy crisis due to a shortage of foreign exchange. India has recently extended economic relief package of US $ One billion (Rs. 7,598 crore) in the form of a loan to bail Sri Lanka out of the current economic crisis.
