The Supreme Court finally grants permission for immersion of Ganesh Idols at Hussain Sagar Lake !

This will be the last permission – Clarifies the Supreme Court

  • The root cause of pollution is unheeded but restrictions are imposed on Hindus’ Shri Ganesh festival celebrated once a year in India. For celebrating Hindus’ festivals as per Hindu ‘Dharma-shastra’ and traditions, establishing Hindu Rashtra is the only alternative !

Hyderabad (Telangana) – The Supreme Court has granted permission for immersion of Ganesh Idols made of Plaster of Paris (PoP) in the famous Hussain Sagar Lake while clarifying that the permission was meant only for this year. (Immersion of Ganesh Idols made of PoP do not cause pollution was proved through research in 2016 by ‘Environment Protection Research Foundation’, Sangli, Maharashtra. Against this background, devout Hindus feel that the devout Hindu advocates should present the case in Court. – Editor) The Supreme Court has also issued orders to the Telangana Government that they should file an affidavit to the effect that such permission for immersion of Ganesh Idols at this lake would not be granted next year.

A 3-member Bench formed under the Chief Justice N V Ramanna of the Supreme Court stated that it was a problem that occurred quite often in the city. Despite many directives issued in this context, the State Government did not follow the orders issued by Telangana High Court on imposing restrictions on Idol immersion and pollution.

While directing the State Government on filing an affidavit for the next year, the 3-member Bench has stated that ‘it is permitting the use of the lake for immersion, for the last time.’ Telangana High Court had issued an order imposing a ban on the immersion of Ganesh Idols made of PoP in Hussain Sagar Lake, along with the other lakes in the city. On 13th September, the High Court had refused to carry out any amendment to its earlier order.

  • The Deities worshipped by devotees for ten days draw charged Holy particles of the principle of that Deity; therefore, as there is symbolic burning of Ravana’s idol on the day of Vijaya Dashami; on a similar basis, symbolic immersion of the Deities would be totally against ‘Dharma-shastra’ and would be like trampling religious sentiments of devotees !  

The Government’s Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the Supreme Court on the occasion that due measures have been taken to reduce pollution in the lake. This immersion will be symbolic. After the immersion, the immersed idols will be immediately taken out with the help of a crane and taken to the assigned place.

(Handling Hindu Deities’ Idols in such a manner is also a denigration. Hindus feel that the Government should pay attention to the religious sentiments of the majority population’s sentiments towards their seats of worship. Hindus want to know if the Government has taken any advice from Shankaracharya or Saints for handling the Idols in such a manner. – Editor)
