2 Indian-origin women MPs inducted into Canadian cabinet

Ottawa (Canada) – The swearing-in ceremony of the new cabinet led by newly elected Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney was held recently. 2 Indian-origin women, Anita Anand and Kamal Khera, have been entrusted with key ministerial responsibilities. Anita Anand, 58, has been appointed as the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Industry, while Kamal Khera, 36, has been appointed as the Minister of Health.

Who is Kamal Khera and Anita Anand ?

According to records on the Canadian Prime Minister’s website, Kamal Khera, born in Delhi, is one of the youngest MPs elected to the Canadian Parliament. She was first elected as the MP for Brampton West in 2015.

Anita Anand, born and raised in Nova Scotia, was considered a potential candidate for prime minister after Justin Trudeau resigned. Anand was first elected as the MP for Oakville in 2019. She has previously served as Minister of National Defence, Minister of Public Services, and Minister of Procurement.
