Why Should the Government Preserve Barbaric Aurangzeb’s Grave ? : Advocate Virendra Ichalkaranjikar

Aurangzeb’s grave located at Khuldabad, Sambhajinagar

Mumbai – In Germany, Hitler’s grave has not been preserved, as there is no global tradition of maintaining the tombs of tyrants. Despite this, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is spending lakhs of rupees to maintain Aurangzeb’s grave, while the memorial of Bajiprabhu Deshpande – who laid down his life protecting Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj – remains neglected on Vishalgad.

Advocate Virendra Ichalkaranjikar, National President of the Hindu Vidhidnya Parishad, raised this concern in a video statement, questioning: “Why should the government preserve the grave of Aurangzeb, who brutally tortured and executed Dharamveer Sambhaji Maharaj?”

This video, challenging the glorification of Aurangzeb’s grave, has gained traction across various media platforms. In response, Hindu nationalist organizations are intensifying their demand for its demolition.

In his video, Advocate Virendra Ichalkaranjikar has revealed official details on the expenses incurred by ASI for maintaining Aurangzeb’s grave since 2011. He obtained this data through the Right to Information Act (RTI). As per the information, between 2011 and November 2023, a total of ₹6,51,900 has been spent on its upkeep. Speaking on the matter, Advocate Virendra Ichalkaranjikar stated, “Barbaric Aurangzeb died in Maharashtra, and his grave is located in Khuldabad, Sambhajinagar. There is no global tradition of maintaining the tombs of tyrants. Yet, the government continues to maintain his grave while neglecting the memorials of those who sacrificed their lives for Hindavi Swarajya. There isn’t even a proper road leading Bajiprabhu deshpande’s memorial on Vishalgad.Meanwhile, the villain who sought to destroy Hindavi Swarajya is being unnecessarily glorified. In May 2022, Akbaruddin Owaisi visited Aurangzeb’s grave and offered flowers. My question is – why should such a tyrant’s grave hold any significance at all?”
