Idol made for Shri Durga Puja vandalised in Bangladesh : Attempts to burn the idol

Temple and Shri Durga Devi idol vandalized in Sherpur District, near Meghalaya border in Bangladesh

Dhaka, Bangladesh – An incident of vandalism of an idol made for Shri Durga Puja has come to light in Bangladesh. In a temple in Bangladesh’s Sherpur District, which is adjacent to the Meghalaya border, some religious fanatics broke opened the temple and vandalised the idol on the night of August 31.

1. Sagar Ravidas, General Secretary of the temple committee, said that some religious fanatics entered the temple after breaking the lock and chain. They broke the idol of the goddess in the temple.

2. Later they tried to burn the idol by sprinkling petrol on it. On getting information about the incident, the local Police and army personnel reached the spot. Local Police station chief Qayyum Khan Siddiqui said that action will be taken against the culprits after the matter is investigated.

3. After the new Government was established in Bangladesh, there is an atmosphere of fear among Hindus; however, the Government has assured the safety of Hindus.

This shows that if India does not take care of the safety of Hindus in Bangladesh, there will be no Hindus and Hindu temples left in Bangladesh in the future.
