Mob has no religion, says Rajasthan HC’s Justice Farjand Ali
Jaipur (Rajasthan) – Rajasthan High Court granted bail to 18 individuals saying, ‘mob has no religion’. This case is about Babu Mahammad against the State of Rajasthan. On 19th March 2024, mob of 18 Muslims attacked a Hindu procession in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan. The Sessions Court had rejected the bail plea for all the arrested18 individuals. This decision was challenged in the High Court.
During the hearing of this case Justice Farjand Ali said,
Two different communities got involved in violence and religious sentiments also might have got hurt. However, it is difficult to determine who is responsible for generating a row and hurting people.
There is no religion of a mob. When a large group of people is alleged to have committed an offence, it is difficult to find out the innocent and the culprits.
At this stage, it is inappropriate to make any comment regarding the culpability of the appellants.
It is conceivable that the individual’s death occurred due to heart attack rather than violence, because the deceased had a minor injury on his knee and that cannot be the cause of death.
