India becomes the world’s largest arms importer

New Delhi – According to a recent report published by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), India’s arms imports have increased by 4.7% in the past five years. This makes India the world’s largest arms importer. Along with India, there has been a 1.5% increase in arms imports from Asia, including Japan. At the same time, China’s arms imports have decreased by 44%. Pakistan is the 5th largest arms importer.

On the other hand, due to the Russia-Ukraine war, arms imports in Europe have nearly doubled between 2014-18 and 2019-23. As of February 2022, at least 30 countries have supplied arms to Ukraine as military aid. This made Ukraine the largest arms importer in Europe and the fourth largest importer in the world in 2019-23.
