A person holding a constitutional position should avoid divisive remarks – Madras HC

After the Supreme Court, the Madras High Court also reprimands Udhayanidhi Stalin

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) – The Madras High Court reprimanded TN Chief Minister M K Stalin’s son and Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin saying, ‘It cannot be said that a person holding a constitutional position is right to compare Sanatan Dharma with AIDS and Malaria. Such people should avoid divisive remarks.’ The Court rejected the petition demanding the removal of Udhayanidhi from the post though.

1. The Court expressed its displeasure over the statements of some other leaders in the State of Tamil Nadu and their participation in a conference aimed at destroying the Sanatan Dharma. The Court said that even if political leaders have ideological differences, statements that divide the people should not be made in public.

2. Earlier on 4th March, the Supreme Court had reprimanded Udhayanidhi Stalin for his statements on Sanatan Dharma. ‘You have abused the free speech under Article 19. The right to freedom of religion was also violated and now you want the intervention of the Court under Article 32 ? You are not a layman, you are a Minister, you should know the consequences of such statement’, the SC had slammed Udhayanidhi’s with these words. SC also asked to go to the Madras High Court in this regard.

Editorial Perspective

Hindus think that the Courts should severely punish such people and not just reprimand, so that others will be deterred.
