Calcutta HC grants BJP permission to stage protests against Sandeshkhali incident

The main accused, Shahjahan Sheikh was ordered to be present for the next hearing

Kolkata (Bengal) – The Calcutta High Court has permitted the BJP to hold protests in Kolkata Maidan regarding the Sandeshkhali incident on 28th-29th February. The protests will be held under the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. The Court has also instructed not to use sound amplification devices during the protests and not to have more than twelve people present and has also given strict instructions to the administration. Shahjahan Sheikh, a leader of the Trinamool Congress in Sandeshkhali, has been accused of sexually assaulting Hindu women and encroaching upon Hindus’ lands. BJP had decided to protest against this matter, however, the Trinamool Congress Government did not permit the protests. Subsequently, the BJP approached the High Court, which intervened.

Information regarding incidents of atrocities against women in Sandeshkhali was provided to the Police 4 years ago, but they took no action. The court expressed surprise at this.

There are 42 cases related to sexual assault, but it took 4 years to file the complaint. On 4th March, during the next hearing, the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation), ED (Enforcement Directorate), Shahjahan Sheikh, the Police Commissioner, and representatives of the Bengal Government were ordered to be present in court.

The Trinamool Congress has assured to take action within 7 days to arrest the main accused, Shahjahan Sheikh

Editorial Perspective

Hindus think that now, more than the protests, what is needed in Bengal is the imposition of President’s Rule, so that the BJP can take immediate action to protect Hindus’ interests.
