Male (Maldives) – “Whenever Maldives was in difficulty, India as our neighbouring country always was the first responder. India has always been in the forefront of giving aid to Maldives in its difficult times”, said Maldives’ former Defence Minister Mariya Didi at the ‘Firstpost Defence Summit’. She was speaking in the context of the ongoing India-Maldives tension that began about 2 months ago.
Mariya Didi said that India also helps its neighbouring country Sri Lanka. Our party’s policy has been peace, both in our country and our region. This is of utmost importance to us. Which is why when our Government was in power, we saw that we always had good relations with our neighbours, and others in the international community. I hope that the relations between India and Maldives improve and the relations become cordial as before.
