PV Narasimha Rao, Chaudhary Charan Singh, and MS Swaminathan declared Bharat Ratna

New Delhi – Congress leader and former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao will be awarded Bharat Ratna posthumously, announced Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his X (formerly Twitter) account. Along with Narasimha Rao, former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh and Dr MS Swaminathan, man who created a revolution in the field of agriculture will also be conferred the Bharat Ratna Award, Prime Minister Modi announced. A few days ago, former Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani and former Bihar Chief Minister Karpuri Thakur were announced as the Bharat Ratna Award recipients.

While praising former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao enthusiastically, Prime Minister Modi said, “I am happy to announce the Bharat Ratna award to former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao. Eminent scholar and politician PV Narasimha Rao contributed significantly to the development of India. He served as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Union Minister, and Member of Parliament and Legislative Assembly for many years. With his visionary leadership, India came forward on the economic front.” Prime Minister Modi further said Narasimha Rao’s tenure as Prime Minister was important for the country. He opened the doors of India to the world market, which started a new era of economic development. Along with this, his contribution in the fields of foreign policy, language, and education not only led to the development of India but also enriched the country culturally and intellectually.

Chaudhary Charan Singh fought against emergency

While giving information about former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh, Prime Minister Modi said, “It is
our Government’s fortune that Chaudhary Charan Singh is being honoured with the Bharat Ratna. We are dedicating this award to Chaudhary Charan Singh for his unparalleled contribution. He devoted his whole life for the rights of farmers and the welfare of farmers. Be it the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh or the Home Minister of the country, he only gave importance to the prosperity of the nation while working in these positions. He also took a strong stand against Emergency. His dedication to our fellow farmers and his willingness to save democracy during times of emergency will continue to inspire us.”
