Handing over ceremony of India’s biggest housing project for workers by the Prime Minister
Solapur, Maharashtra – “We could give permanent houses to 4 crore citizens. Ask them how happy they feel about getting the houses. The ‘Garibi hatao’ (eradicate poverty) slogan has been ringing in the country for the past so many years, but there has been no eradication of poverty. Though there were schemes for the poor, they did not get the benefits. This means that the earlier Government’s policy and loyalty were questionable. But now your children will not have to relive the days you lived. You will now be able to live in a permanent house instead of a hut”, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 19th January. He was speaking at the handing over ceremony of the largest housing project for workers. This is the largest housing project built in the country for unorganised and bidi workers. It has 834 buildings and 30,000 flats spread over 350 acres. The ‘Amrut 2.0’ scheme was inaugurated here by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde was also present. Along with the houses, some of the beneficiaries of the ‘Svanidhi’ scheme were also given the funds.
Prime Minister added,
I am complying with strict Yam-Niyam (rules) under the guidance of the Saints. With your blessings, I am doing this penance. My vow and penance began from Maharashtra’s Panchavati in Nashik. Shriram Temple was a long-awaited dream that is now coming true. May every home in the country be lit by the Shriram flame on the evening of 22nd January.
25 crore countrymen have come out of the poverty line. We have only given facilities and means to the country’s poor. They, with their endeavour, have come out of poverty.
Prime Minister gets emotional“The progress of Maharashtra is because of the endeavours of the Maharashtra Government and the people of the State. The handing over ceremony of India’s largest housing society for workers happened today. Wish I had gotten a chance to live in such a house during my childhood”, said the Prime Minister who could not hold back his tears. Modi stopped his address for a moment to compose himself and added, “I have come personally to give you the keys to your homes. Today more than a lakh families will be moving into their new homes.” |
