Islamabad (Pakistan) – Inflation has skyrocketed in the poverty-stricken Pakistan. In Lahore city, a dozen eggs cost Rs 400 PKR while onion is sold at Rs 250 PKR per kg. The situation is said to have arisen due to the administration’s apparent failure to fix certain common prices. There has been a caretaker Government for the past one year and parliamentary elections are being held on 8 th February.

1.Although the Government has fixed the onion prices at Rs 175 PKR, it is being sold at a higher rate. Chicken meat is being sold at Rs 615 PKR per kg. Last year, the price rise of flour led to a stampede in some places and some people even lost their lives.

2.During the tenure of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and the caretaker Government, Pakistan’s total debt increased by over Rs 12.43 trillion PKR.

3.The overall debt burden now stands at Rs 63.39 trillion PKR, including Rs 40.956 trillion PKR in domestic loans and Rs 22.434 trillion PKR in international loans.
