New Delhi – MP Mahua Moitra of Trinamool Congress (TMC) had raised a few queries targeting the Adani group of Industries to create trouble for Modi Government which she would have asked in the Parliament, stated Darshan Hiranandani, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Hiranandani Group in an affidavit filed by him. MP Moitra has been accused of ‘Cash for Query’ i.e., taking money for asking questions in the Parliament. Darshan Hiranandani filed an affidavit with the Ethics Committee of Parliament, wherein he claimed that Mahua Moitra had passed on the login address of the Parliament and password to him. With the login address and password, Hiranandani could have directly raised queries in the Parliament on behalf of Moitra.

Darshan Hiranandani has also stated in his affidavit that Sucheta Dalal, a journalist, renowned advocate Shardul Shroff, and his wife Pallavi Shroff helped Moitra in the matter. Even Congress leader Shashi Tharoor and Pinaki Mishra of Janata Dal (Biju) helped Moitra; besides her getting help from a few foreign journalists. Mahua Moitra also got a costly gift from him, in addition to his carrying out repairs to her official residence and bearing the cost of her travel and holidays.

Darshan Hiranandani has admitted that Mahua Moitra wanted to criticise PM Modi to gain fame. She, therefore, targeted Adani. She was also in contact with Rahul Gandhi.

Hiranandani has presented this affidavit after BJP MP Nishikant Dubey wrote two letters to the Speaker of the Parliament, Om Birla. Nishikant Dubey made serious allegations against Moitra in his letter, including taking bribes from Hiranandani to protect his group. Ashwini Vaishnav, the Department of Information Technology Minister, had appealed to conduct a technical probe into this matter.

Mahua Moitra criticises Hiranandani’s affidavit

MP Mahua Moitra said that the affidavit was absurd. She also alleged that the draft of the affidavit was sent by PMO’s office and Darshan Hiranandani was forced to sign the affidavit.

Mahua Moitra’s advocate withdraws from the case

TMC MP Mahua Moitra had filed a case of defamation in the Delhi High Court against BJP MP Nishikant Dubey and advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai, which was heard on the 20th of October 2023. Advocate Jai Anant said that on the night of 19th October 2023, Moitra’s advocate Sankaranarayanan called him and asked him to settle the matter outside the Court. Justice Datta said, “It was surprising to know advocate Sankaranarayanan trying to be a mediator. It is a matter which Sankaranarayanan will have to answer. It is his decision.”

After this, advocate Sankaranarayanan withdrew from the case. The next hearing will be held on the 31st of October 2023.
