Moscow (Russia) – Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday called the Canadian parliament’s standing ovations to honour a Ukrainian war veteran who served in Nazi Waffen SS units “disgusting”, and said it showed Moscow was right to “denazify” Ukraine.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau last month formally apologised after the speaker of the Canadian House of Commons, Anthony Rota, praised 98-year-old ex-soldier Yaroslav Hunka in the chamber while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was present. Rota said he had made a mistake and resigned. Highlighting the embarrassing moment, Putin said the incident showed Moscow was right to “denazify” Ukraine. “If he (Anthony Rota) doesn’t know that during the war Hitler and his henchmen fought against Russia, then, he’s an idiot. Well, it means he just didn’t study at school but if he knows that this man [Hunka] fought on Hitler’s side and calls him a hero of Ukraine and a hero of Canada, then he is a villain. Either this or that.”

Western countries couldn’t withstand before India – Putin

Vladimir Putin showered praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday and spoke about his country’s plan to create a ‘new world’.

Putin also lashed out at the West amid the ongoing war with Ukraine, contending that Russia’s critics were trying to cast everyone “who is not ready to blindly follow these Western elites as the enemy. At a certain point in time, they tried to do the same with India. Now they are flirting, of course.

We all understand this very well. We feel and see the situation in Asia. Everything is clear. I want to say that the Indian leadership is self-directed. It is led by the national interests. I think that those attempts make no sense. But, they continue. They are trying to cast Arabs as the enemy. They are trying to be careful, but overall, that’s what it all boils down to,” he added.
