Lucknow (UP) – The State of Uttar Pradesh has decided to de-recognize 240 madrasas due to the low number of students. Minority Welfare Officers have sent a list of such madrasas to the Uttar Pradesh Board of Madrasa Education. Several of these madarasas are no longer operating. Due to low attendance in many madarasas, many of them have not published their documents on the website due to compliance with the ‘Madrasa Rules’. Some madarasas have even requested the Uttar Pradesh Board of Madrasa Education to de-recognise themselves. A total of 16,450 madarasas are recognised in the State. Out of these 560 madarasas are subsidised. Every year the number of candidates in Madrasa Education Board examinations is decreasing rapidly. This year only 1,72,000 applications were received from madarasas across the State.

Editorial viewpoint

Providing religious education to Muslims with Government revenue in a secular country is an injustice to the majority of Hindus in the country. It is equally a violation of the right to equality given to the people by the Constitution. However, after Independence, all the Governments so far have been doing injustice to Hindus for votes and are doing sycophancy of Muslims. This picture needs to be changed.
