Mamata Banerjee increased the remuneration of Imams, Muazzins and Priests

Imams will get Rs 3,000 and priests Rs 1,500

Imam is an Islamic leadership position

Muazzin is the Muslim official of a mosque who summons the faithful to prayer from a minaret five times a day (Azaan)

Kolkata – Mamata Banerjee has increased the monthly allowance to the registered Imams, and Priests by Rs 500. Now Imams will get Rs 3,000, Priests Rs 1,500. Muazzin also will get Rs 2,500. The number of Imams and Muazzins is 30,000 and 20,000 in Bengal. The Government pays them allowance through the Waqf Board.
