New Delhi – Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the ‘Amrit Bharat Station Scheme’ on the 6th of August 2023. The scheme will re-develop 508 railway stations under this scheme in the first phase. PM Modi said that the project will benefit all States of Bharat. The expenditure on re-developing 55 ‘Amrit Stations’ in Uttar Pradesh will be about Rs 4,500 crore. In Rajasthan, too, 55 railway stations will be modernised.

Redevelopment of 144 railway stations under the Northern Railway Sector
Under this scheme, 144 stations under the Northern Railway sector will be re-developed; out of them, 71 stations will be included in the first phase. There will be revamping of 33 stations in the Delhi region and 14 stations among them have been selected for inclusion under the first phase. Shobhan Chaudhari, General Manager, Northern Railway said that the re-development would be undertaken considering their feasibility for the next 30 years. The railway stations will be re-developed as the city centres under this scheme, preserving their respective traditional heritage and cultural identity while offering modern facilities. The overall expenditure is projected at Rs 24,470 crore.
