Banned China made two-wheelers used rampantly to fuel violence in Manipur

Imphal (Manipur) – Banned China-made ‘Kenbo bikes’ during violence are being used rampantly here. Violence-prone mountainous terrain like Ukhrul and Kamjong these bikes appeared frequently in use. These bikes require no maintenance and are cheap, costing Rs 25,000. Compared with Indian bikes, it is very cheap, comfortable for the mountainous regions in Manipur, therefore as per the reports, they were used by those engaged in violence

Out of the confiscated bikes by the Police in violence so far, more than 50% are ‘Kenbo bikes’. The Police have confiscated bikes without number, but that has not affected those connected with it.

Earlier these bikes were used for smuggling drugs; hence the Government had banned them.

From Yunnan in China loose parts of these bikes are transported from Thailand via Myanmar to specific agents in Manipur. These parts are assembled in Manipur only.

Editorial perspective

Rampant use of banned vehicles in the State is shameful for Government machinery.
