The decision of the Congress Government in Himachal Pradesh
Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) – The Congress Government in Himachal Pradesh has decided to levy a ‘gomata surcharge’ of Rs 10 per bottle on the sale of liquor. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu made this announcement while presenting the annual budget for the financial year 2023-24 in the State Assembly. This is likely to earn the Government a revenue of Rs 100 crore every year.
Some states like Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh levy a ‘Cow Cess’ or ‘Cow Welfare Cess’ to generate a revenue to take care of stray animals.
