New Delhi – Turkiye, Syria, Lebanon and Israel in 4 Middle East countries were jolted by an earthquake of 7.8 magnitudes on 6th February in which at least 4,300 people died and thousands have been injured. As per the ‘United States Geological Survey’ the number of dead has reached more than 4,000, which might rise up to 10,000. Maximum loss has been in the area near the centre of the earthquake, Turkiye and Syria. 1,400 dead and hundreds injured in Syria. Lebanon and Israel reported no loss. 30,000 people died in the Earthquake of 7.8 Richter scale in Turkey in 1939. The loss has been severe in 10 cities including Ankara, Gaziantep, Kahranmaras, Diyarbakir, Malatya, and Nuradagi. The report states that more than 250 buildings in these cities have collapsed and many people have been buried, and rescue operation is going on there in earnest. Emergency has been declared in many parts.

Prime Minister Modi has expressed his grief over the disaster. He has assured to give as much help to grief-stricken parts of Turkey as required.
