The word Hindu is Vedic and mentioned in Puranas : Shankaracharya Swami Nishchalananda Saraswati

Bengaluru (Karnataka)  –  The Karnataka Congress Executive Committee President Satish Jarkiholi had said that the word Hindu is foreign and has a very dirty meaning to it. Despite being criticised from every direction Jarkiholi is firm on his claim. He has also tried to give different references. But Congress has distanced itself from Jarkiholi’s statement saying that it is his personal view and has nothing to do with the party. (However, Congress must take a stand. Even if it is Jarkiholi’s personal opinion, why doesn’t Congress condemn it ? If he or any other Congress leader had made such a statement on any other religion, would the Congress have responded like this or taken stern action against them ? – Editor) With reference to this context, in the year 2017, Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Nishchalananda Saraswati of Purvamanaya Govardhan Peetha of Puri explained that the word ‘Hindu’ is Vedic and mentioned in Puranas.

The word Hindu was in use long before the arrival of the Christians and Paigambar !

Shankaracharya also said that the word Hindu was in use long before the arrival of Jesus Christ and Mohammad Paigambar. When Alexander came to India, he called India ‘Sindhustan’. Not only that but the word ‘Hindu’ is also mentioned in the Puranas. Many ancient texts have confirmed the usage of this word.
