Nobel laureate Roman bishop accused of sexual harassment

The Vatican to start investigating

Roman bishop Carles Felipe Jimenez Bello

Vatican City  – 75-year-old Nobel laureate Roman bishop Carles Felipe Jimenez Bello has been accused of sexual abuse. An article about this has been published in a magazine in the Netherlands. After this news was published, the Vatican promised to investigate the matter. This incident happened when Bello was a bishop in East Timor, a country in Southeast Asia, in the 1980s and 90s. He is accused of sexually abusing many girls there. Bello also paid the girls who were sexually abused as they were from poor families. The families of these girls said that they were scared; because the church that Bello belonged to was famous and he was well respected in the church.

East Timor was ruled by Indonesia from 1975 to 1999. During this period a great massacre took place there. During this period, Bello was campaigning in Timor using non-violent methods. This is why he was awarded the Nobel Prize in the year 1996.

Editorial viewpoint

Now anyone would feel that the time has now come to investigate every Christian pastor’s history and the present. Also, we have to note that such pastors are considered harbingers of peace in India !
