Sheikh Saleh Al Talib, former head of the Mecca Mosque

Riyadh  – A Court in Saudi Arabia has sentenced Sheikh Saleh Al Talib, the former head of the Mecca Mosque, to 10 years in prison. The Imam was arrested in the year 2018. He was arrested after he criticised the General Entertainment Authority, the body that regulates the entertainment sector in Saudi Arabia. He had opposed musical programs.

Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman is pursuing reformist policies in his country. But he is facing opposition from fundamentalist clerics and imams. Action is being taken against such people and they are being put in jail. Talib is one of those people.
