Agitation by Vishva Hindu Parishad at Srirangapatna (Karnataka)

The Issue of the Jama Mosque being an old Hindu temple

Mandya (Karnataka) – A few weeks ago, in the Srirangapatna in Mandya District, some remains of a Hindu temple were found during the renovation of the Jama Mosque. After that, the Hindus informed the Police that earlier there was ‘Mudla Bagilu Anjaneya Temple’ over there and stopped the work of renovation. Since then, Hindu organisations have been trying to get this land in the custody of Hindus. It has also been demanded that the Archeological Department should survey these premises. (Why is the Archaeological Department not accepting this demand ? – Editor) Against this background, calling out ‘Chalo Srirangapatna’, the Vishva Hindu Parishad had appealed to perform a puja on the site of the so-called Mosque on 4th June. Hence, the Police had imposed a curfew and had deployed more than 500 Police officers and installed 4 check posts. They were too, supervising the place. At that time, the activists of VHP recited Hanuman Chalisa on the street.

The Home Minister of Karnataka Araga Jnanendra gave orders that the Police should take all the required steps to maintain the law and order. No one will be allowed to take the law into their control under any circumstances. He also clarified that any organisation is allowed to continue with their agitation in a peaceful and democratic way.
