New Delhi – The College of Defence Management (CDM) recently conducted an internal study that suggested finding ways to include ‘relevant teachings’ from ancient Indian texts such as Kautilya’s Arthashastra and Bhagavad Geeta into the current military training curriculum. The study also recommended establishing an ‘Indian Culture Study Forum’ and a dedicated facility to explore this possibility. CDM, located at Secunderabad in Telangana, is a premier tri-services military training institution, where senior officers from the Army, Navy and the Indian Air Force are trained for higher defence management. The Centre is implementing a project on ‘Contemporary Defence and Training of Ancient Indian Culture and Warfare’. Through this, an attempt is being made to create leadership qualities in terms of protection by researching ancient Indian texts.

Attempt to politicise the military, Congress accuses
Also claims that the Kargil war was won with the help of Muslim soldiers

India won the Kargil war due to the martyrdom of brave hearts like Captain Saurabh Kalia, Captain Vikram Batra PVC and the other Hindu officers and soldiers. Does this list have a single Muslim officer ? Will the so-called liberals and secularists condemn Congress for playing religion politics in defence matters ?
Congress has opposed the recommendation. Congress spokesperson K.K. Mishra said that teaching the Bhagavad Geeta and economics is like politicising the military. He said, ‘Politics should not be done, at least in the context of the military. We had won the Kargil war with the help of Muslim soldiers’.
