When corrupt people can be executed in China, why not in India ?
Beijing – Lai Xiaomin, the former chairman of China Huarong Asset Management Co., who was involved in various corrupt activities to the tune of two thousand nineteen crores and 53 lakh rupees, was executed in the northern city of Tianjin. While pronouncing the sentence, China’s highest Court said, ‘the amount received as bribes by Lai Xiaomin is enormous and the facts, nature, circumstances and the degree of harm to the society merit the extreme punishment’. The court refused to overturn the sentence passed by the lower court. China has a conviction rate of 99.9%. However, capital punishment is reserved for extremely serious crimes including corruption.
