New Delhi – India has told Canada that instead of making useless statements against India, Canada should crack down on anti-Indian Khalistani and hand over evidence of allegations made against India. India has said that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s statement and the investigation agency’s allegations are two different things. India has said Canada should hand over Khalistani militants operating on its soil to India. India recently briefed top security officials and Trudeau Government ambassadors about India’s position.
1. India briefed Canada on the norms and international laws that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau cannot make baseless accusations against India for the killing of terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar without presenting any evidence or blame the so-called ‘criminals’.
2. India has expressed concern over the continued political direction given by Canada to Indian investigative officials investigating the killings of Khalistani militants, calling it wrong.
3. After Nijjar’s assassination on 18thJune 2023, relations between the two countries have remained tense. On 11thOctober 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Justin Trudeau came face-to-face at a lunch on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit; but India has said that there was no discussion between the two leaders.
