Ban on Government employees to join RSS lifted after 58 years

  • A commendable decision by the Union Government
  • Then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had imposed the ban

New Delhi – The Union Government has lifted the ban on Government employees to join the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). It was initially imposed in 1966 by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

According to the order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training, the RSS has been removed from the list of organisations that Government employees were previously prohibited from joining. This order references Government notifications issued on November 30, 1966, July 25, 1970, and October 28, 1980.

Amit Malviya, head of BJP’s IT cell, criticised Congress in a post. He mentioned that the Modi Government has revoked the unconstitutional order issued by the Government 58 years ago, which prohibited Government employees from participating in RSS activities. The original order was issued against the backdrop of a protest against cow slaughter held near the Parliament on November 7, 1966, which saw significant participation from RSS and Jan Sangh supporters. Many were killed in the Police firing during this protest, leading to the imposition of the ban. The ban on Government employees attending RSS events was imposed by Indira Gandhi on November 30, 1966, out of fear of the influence of the RSS and Jan Sangh.

Bureaucrats can now roam around in shorts : Congress

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh criticised the Government’s decision, stating that the Congress Government’s ban on Government employees to join the RSS was appropriate. Even during Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s tenure, this ban was maintained. However, now that the ban has been lifted, bureaucrats can roam around in shorts.

Sunil Ambekar, the All India Prachar Pramukh of RSS, stated, “The RSS has been working for national reconstruction and social service for the past 99 years. The organisation’s contribution to national security, unity, and integrity is significant. Therefore, the Government’s decision to lift the ban is appropriate and strengthens the Indian democratic system.”

Editorial Perspectives

  • This shows the Congress party, which labels others of dictatorship, itself has a dictatorial mindset.
  • The response by the Congress party shows their mentality. The decline of this country due to Congressmen wearing Gandhi caps, has been witnessed by the citizens.
