Bhubaneswar – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won the Assembly elections in Odisha by defeating the ruling Biju Janata dal (BJD). The BJD has been in power for the last 27 years. With Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s influence over the people, it was considered impossible to defeat the BJD in Odisha. In this context, this is considered a historic victory for the BJP. Total seats in Odisha Assembly are 147. 74 seats are needed to form a Government. BJP is leading on 78 seats while BJD on 53 seats.

Many ministers of Navin Patnaik are trailing. Forest Minister P K Amat, Science and Technology Minister Ashok Panda, Finance Minister Bikram Aruksha, Minister for Mines Prafulla Mallik are included in this list.
