Madurai (Tamil Nadu) – The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court has sentenced a woman named Devanayaki to 1 year imprisonment for using her husband’s corruption money. Woman’s husband was a Government employee. After his death, the Court found his wife guilty of the corruption and sentenced her.

In this case, the Court said that it is the duty of the wife of a Government servant to prevent her husband from accepting or demanding bribe. Abstaining from bribery is the basic philosophy of life. If one accepts bribe, he and his family will be ruined. If they have enjoyed the money earned illegally, they will have to pay for it. Corruption is rampant in this country. Corruption starts from home and if the woman of the house is a partner in the corruption, there is no end to the corruption. The woman in this case benefitted from the illegally obtained money and now she has to face the punishment.

Editorial Perspective

This decision makes it necessary to punish the wife of every corrupt person; because most of the wives know that their husband is corrupt, yet they share the money earned by the husband through corrupt means.
