New Delhi – On the night of 25th May, a fire broke out in Vivek Vihar’s ‘New Born Baby Care Centre’ in Delhi, which claimed the lives of 7 new-born babies. The work of extinguishing the fire was going on till the dawn of 26th May. The fire that broke out at 11.30 p.m. on 25th May was brought under control by about 4 a.m. on 26th May. Reportedly, the fire was caused by a short circuit. Inquiry about various permissions given to the hospital in underway.
There was a large stock of oxygen cylinders kept in this centre. Due to bursting of these cylinders, fire spread faster. A house adjacent to this centre also caught fire. Fortunately no resident was injured, informed the fire department.
