Indian students attacked in Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan) – On the night of 17th May, a mob of local youths attacked foreign students in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, one of the countries that gained independence from Soviet Russia. These students are enrolled in four medical universities in the city. Indian students took refuge in a cafe to save their lives and were unharmed in the attack. However, four Pakistani students were injured, with one in critical condition. Additionally, several Bangladeshi students were also injured. Previously, three Pakistani students were killed in a mob attack. Over 15,000 Indian students are studying in Kyrgyzstan.

On 13th May, local youths had harassed a female student from Egypt, leading Egyptian students to retaliate. A rumour then spread that a local had died in the incident. To avenge this, the youths attacked foreign students. Following the incident, India has advised its students to stay inside their hostels.
