China’s attempt to annex Bhutan

London (UK) – China is rapidly developing infrastructure in the northern part of Bhutan. Discussions are ongoing to resolve the border dispute between China and Bhutan. China’s apparent attempt to annex Bhutan has been revealed through the satellite. Professor Robert Barnett of London University said that China wants to annex North Bhutan territory. Bhutan’s Jakarlung valley may go under Chinese control in the future.

What China is building in the Jakarlung valley is not just about checkpoints. China wants to settle people there. This shows China’s ambition to take over Bhutan, says expert Damien Simon.

China had earlier tried to build roads in many parts of Bhutan. In 2017, China had tried to build a road in South-West Doklam. There they had a skirmish with Indian soldiers. China, India and Bhutan share their borders in Doklam.

India is Bhutan’s greatest friend

Bhutan has been close to India since the beginning, but India never interfered in its foreign policy. Bhutan, a country with a population of 8 lakhs, has adopted a non-aligned policy.

Editorial Perspective

Cunning China is trying to isolate India by pulling India’s neighbouring countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Nepal, Myanmar, Maldives and now Bhutan into its trap. The Government should recognise this threat in time and teach a lesson to China in a language it understands.
