The British PM should apologise for the massacre carried out by the then British Government 100 years ago in Gujarat !

Demand by descendants of people killed in the Gujarat massacre

New Delhi – The British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is on a two-day tour to India. He visited Mahatma Gandhi’s Sabarmati Ashram in Gujarat. He will go to Delhi too. Against this background, it has been demanded that the British PM should apologise for the massacre of 1,200 Indians killed by the British at Pal-Dadhvav of Gujarat for opposing the then Government. It has been 100 years since that incident took place.

Under the leadership of Motilal Tejawat, a social reformist, a movement was staged to oppose the exploitation of two thousand tribals by the British regime when Major H T Sutton had ordered the British soldiers to shoot at the agitators. This year, Gujarat Government had prepared an exhibition Rath depicting this massacre on the occasion of Republic Day for participating in the programme on 26th January at Rajpath in Delhi.

Motilal Tejawat’s grandson Mahendra said that there was British rule when the genocide occurred; therefore, if the British PM Johnson feels what happened with the unarmed tribals was wrong, he should apologise for the same.

Editorial comment

The British should not only apologise for this but also for the inordinate persecution of Indians; for brutally killing revolutionaries, and for their attempts to destroy Hindu culture during their regime. The Indian Government should pressurise Britain for the same !
