“For many years now in this country, we have been experiencing that the Police and administration always dance to the tune of political leaders. The illegal reading of namaz in public places all over the country is a challenge to the civility of this country. The way Hindu citizens and organisations opposed the illegal reading of namaz taking place openly on the roads in Gurugram, should be emulated and similar opposition should be there all over the country”, said Mr Neeraj Atri (President of ‘Vivekananda Karya Samiti’) while speaking in a Special Online discussion organised by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) on the topic of ‘Why namaz in public places ?’

“Only for vote bank politics, special concessions have been extended to a certain community for the past 70 years in this country, resulting in the breach of articles of our Constitution. As per the Indian Constitution, no one has the right to do anything that inconveniences other citizens. Reading namaz in public places leads to great inconvenience to pedestrians and commuters travelling by different modes of transport as they have to keep waiting. It is, therefore, necessary to legally fight to stop illegal reading of namaz in public places. Advocates should take initiative in filing a petitions in this connection”, opined Advocate Gaurav Goyal, who is practising in the Supreme Court.

Mr Narendra Surve (Spokesperson of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti) said that the reason given for reading namaz in public places is the shortage of space in mosques, which is completely wrong. If Hindus also start saying that they will perform religious rituals in public places because there is lack of space in temples, will it be allowed ? “Today, there is a ban on reading namaz in public places even in many Muslim countries and a hefty fine is levied if this rule is not followed. Why are the Police in India permitting illegal reading of namaz in public places in a secular India ? On the other hand, Hindus have to struggle to get permissions even to celebrate their public festivals such as Ganeshotsav and Navaratrotsav. It is, therefore, surprising that in a modern city like Gurugram, reading namaz was taking place in public places under Police protection. Hindus should condemn such things and fight this legally”, he added.
