
Male (Maldives) – The former President and the Speaker of the Parliament of Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed, was injured in a bomb blast near his residence on 6th May. He was rushed to the Hospital for treatment. The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack. Mohamed Nasheed had expressed deep concern over the growing influence of the Islamic State in Maldives during his visit to India. Ibrahim Solih, the President of Maldives, has ordered an investigation with the help of Australian authorities. He further said that this is not just an attack on Mr Nasheed, it is an attack on the democracy and economy of Maldives.
