Sao Paulo (Brazil) – The situation in Brazil is very grave due to the Covid-19 pandemic. So far thousands of people have died due to the virus. Cemeteries are running out of space to bury the dead. At present, out of the country’s 21 crore population, 2 crore people are facing starvation. These grim facts have been reported by ‘The Brazilian Food Sovereignty and Nutritional Security Research Network (PENSSAN Network)’.
- Renato Maluf, president of the institute, said, “People in cities can come on the street and ask for food; but the situation in the villages is very grave, because there is no one on the streets to help anyone out. This situation is due to increased unemployment and price rise of essential commodities both exacerbated by the pandemic.
- According to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, price of rice rose by 70 percent and LPG prices went up by 20 percent in last one year.
