India is not the refugee capital of the world.

New Delhi – ‘India is not the refugee capital of the world. We will not allow this to happen. The Government is acting according to the law’, with these words the Central Government responded to a petition being heard before the Supreme Court.

The case pertains to 150 Rohingya Muslims being held in a cantonment in Jammu & Kashmir. The Rohingyas are to be deported immediately from this camp. A petition had been filed before the SC seeking directives to the Government to postpone the deportation. Adv. Tushar Mehta, on behalf of the Central Government, told the Court that the Rohingyas in the cantonment are not refugees but illegal migrants. (Do not be surprised if someone demands that those who represents the Rohingyas should also be deported. – Editor) Chief Justice Sharad Bobde made it clear that the petition is for Indian citizens only and not of other countries’.
