Ramnath Devasthan, Goa : Many false narratives, far from facts are being peddled in the society. False narratives peddled during the recent elections caused a very bad effect on the results too. The present narrative is that the Congress Party got us independence. Is it not true that the Congress Party is responsible for partition? This is the party which joined with the Muslim league which was responsible for the massacre, loot and murder of nearly 10 lakh people in the borders, and displacement of nearly 2 crore people. So we have to set the narrative that this is the party that brought about partition and all the tragedy that followed it asserted Dr SR Leela, prominent writer and former MLA, Karnataka. She was speaking on fighting fake narratives in the Vaishvik Hindu Rashtra Mahotsav (2024).

When the independence movement is talked about, the contributions of 3 big names – Dr Ambedkar, Swatantryaveer Savarkar, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose are never mentioned. They should be remembered.

Whenever Muslims are mentioned, we should stop saying that they are a minority. How can they be a minority when their population here is greater than that of Muslims in Pakistan. This narrative must be countered by saying that they are the second largest majority in this country. They are overpowering the majority. Does any minority in any other country do this? So challenging and changing fake narratives like ‘there is no freedom in India’, ‘Minorities are being oppressed’ is very essential.
