The so-called progressives demand the release of 375 urban Naxals from jail because of corona

Those making the demand include Javed Akhtar, Amol Palekar, Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi, etc.

Why these so-called progressive elements did not raise such a demand in case of innocent Hindus jailed for 9 years in Malegaon case?

New Delhi – Recently the so-called progressive elements comprising Javed Akhtar, Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi, Amol Palekar, etc. have appealed  to the Central Government to release the arrested urban naxals  Varavara Rao, Sudha Bharadwaj, Anand Teltumbde, Gautam Navlakha, Vernon Gonsalves, Surendra Gadling because of increase in spread of coronavirus.

In their press note, these so-called progressive elements have stated that ‘Many of them are respectable and have done social welfare work. They have neither been convicted nor hatched a conspiracy to flee from the country. In Maharashtra jails, even though few convicts have died of the corona, the convicts who are affected by corona are not given bail. Under such circumstances, these respectable persons should be granted bail on humanitarian grounds.
