Mumbai – There is a rise in vehicles carrying out modifications in the car and fitting harmful headlights. Such blinding lights cause harm to the eyes. Accidents have been reported due to these lights leading to deaths. Fitting these harmful lights is, therefore, like playing with people’s lives and the Police should take stringent action against people responsible for it. ‘Surajya Abhiyan’ of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) has asked the State Government to take action in this context. A written complaint has also been submitted to the Dy Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis by ‘Surajya Abhiyan’.

Mr Abhishek Murkute, the Coordinator of ‘Surajya Abhiyan’ stated while giving additional information in this regard that it is a crime to replace the regular light with harmful lights. The glaring lights blind drivers driving from opposite directions and even pedestrians. The driver can lose control of his vehicle for a few seconds or his concentration can be disturbed. An increase in accidents has been reported. The State Transport Department of Gujarat has issued a circular to take action against four-wheelers with LED lights. The Regional Transport Department, Ahmedabad has started a drive against vehicles with LED white lights. The Police should take prompt action against owners of vehicles with such harmful lights as action is taken against people riding two-wheelers without helmets or people not using seatbelts in cars or vehicles with dark glasses, besides drunk drivers.

Action should be taken against drivers, owners and sellers

In addition to taking punitive action against vehicle owners with LED white lights, such vehicles should be kept in Police custody till the lights are replaced. The Police can undertake an intense drive at night. Action should be taken while checking vehicles at ‘Nakabandi’ and tracing vehicles with such harmful lights. A drive can be undertaken by the regional transport office (RTO) to create awareness amongst people. Similarly, action should be taken even against the sellers of such lights, both wholesalers and retailers, demanded ‘Surajya Abhiyan’ as informed by Mr Abhishek Murkute.
